Public Relations Plan

Two Media Exposure Ideas
1. Workshops and training sessions
2. Launching a Social Media Campaign with Student Ambassadors

One of the ideas for a media exposure is Hosting a Campus-Wide Mental Health Awareness Event which involves Organizing a large-scale event on campus, such as a “Mental Health Awareness Day,” can significantly boost the visibility of the CAPS mental health peer support program. This event would feature workshops, guest speakers, and interactive activities, including sessions on stress management, mindfulness, and peer support training. By collaborating with student organizations, local mental health professionals, and wellness advocates, the event can provide a comprehensive and engaging experience for all participants.

"the event fosters a sense of community and collective responsibility towards mental health"

A campus-wide event will attract a large number of students, increasing awareness of the CAPS mental health peer support program. It provides an opportunity for direct engagement with the target audience, making the program more accessible and relatable. By involving various stakeholders, the event fosters a sense of community and collective responsibility towards mental health. This collaborative approach helps in creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable discussing mental health issues.
Workshops and training sessions will equip students with practical skills and knowledge, aligning with the program’s mission to promote peer-to-peer support and mental well-being. These educational components ensure that students leave the event with valuable tools to support themselves and their peers. Such an event is likely to attract local media attention, providing additional exposure and credibility to the program. Media coverage can amplify the program’s reach, encouraging more students to participate and benefit from the resources offered.
Another idea is Launching a Social Media Campaign with Student Ambassadors
Which is by developing a social media campaign featuring student ambassadors who share their personal experiences with mental health and the benefits of peer support can effectively promote the CAPS program. Utilizing platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, the campaign can post engaging content, including videos, testimonials, and mental health tips. Creating a unique hashtag will unify the campaign and encourage student participation.
Social media is a powerful tool to reach the target demographic of 18-24-year-old students. It allows for widespread dissemination of information and resources, making it easier for students to access support and learn about the program. Student ambassadors can provide authentic and relatable perspectives, making the program more appealing and trustworthy to their peers. Their personal stories and experiences can resonate with other students, encouraging them to seek support and participate in the program. Social media campaigns can foster interactive engagement through comments, shares, and user-generated content. This interaction creates a sense of community and support, where students can connect with each other and share their experiences.
Unlike one-time events, a social media campaign can maintain ongoing awareness and engagement. Continuous promotion through social media ensures that the program remains visible and relevant, encouraging sustained participation and support.By implementing these two strategies, CAPS at IU Indianapolis can effectively raise awareness, foster a supportive campus environment, and encourage student participation in the mental health peer support program. These approaches not only enhance the visibility of the program but also create a lasting impact on the mental well-being of the student community.
